Toshiba EM925A5A Microwave Review

Toshiba EM925A5A Microwave Review

Toshiba’s EM925A5A microwave has an amazing price vs. performance ratio. It costs around $80 and with an interior capacity at 0.9 cu. ft. and 900 Watt cooking power, it’s just right for a small family. This Toshiba microwave comes with two color options; stainless steel (EM925A5A-SS) and black stainless steel (EM925A5A-BS).

To put our money where our mouth is, we purchased our test Toshiba EM925A5A-SS microwave from Amazon. It arrived without an Amazon over-box, just wrapped in manufacturers’ original packaging. Usually, we get nervous when we receive packages from UPS or FedEx since we experience our share of shipping damages running an e-commerce business. We are happy to report that this Toshiba microwave comes in a heavy duty box and the product was protected well inside the box with the right amount of packing materials.

We ran our usual tests of melting butter, defrosting chicken breasts, and testing the popcorn program. The Toshiba EM925A5A-SS performed well in our tests and we believe for a price point around $80, this is a great product.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Microwave

Almost every household in the US has a microwave oven. The technology has been around since the 1960s, yet with so many options on the market, it is hard to make a selection. The following criteria will help you make the best selection for your home.

1) Determine Type of Microwave

Microwaves come in 4 different types; over-the-range, countertop, built-in, or drawer microwaves. Make sure to choose the right type for your home. This Toshiba EM925A5A is a countertop model and its ventilation requirements do not allow it to be installed in a built-in fashion.

2) Size: Will it Fit?

The second most important factor is size. Make sure to measure your space, also allow for some room around your microwave for proper ventilation. The dimensions of Toshiba EM925A5A are as follows: Width 19.2 x Height 14.8 x Depth 11.5 inches.

3) Cooking Power (Watts)

We recommend a minimum of 800 Watts in cooking power in microwave ovens. 900 Watts is ideal for a small family. If you are using your microwave a lot or you have a larger family, we recommend targeting 1,000 Watts or more. The good news with Toshiba EM925A5A is that it allows you to cook at 13 different power levels. This flexibility helps you with different food types from melting butter to cooking shrimp without burning your food.

4) Features

This Toshiba microwave does not have any unnecessary buttons on its control panel.

One-Touch pre-programmed keys are convenient. The essentials are covered with popcorn, 1 min, +30 seconds, and kitchen timer. Power level is only a button away to adjust with a touch. You can even pre-program your actions using the memory function as an example: “Cook corn on the cob at 90% power level for 4 minutes; save as memory 1″

Sensor Cooking feature is basic and covers you for defrost by time or weight. In fact, it might be a stretch to call these features a true sensor cook that we expect from a modern microwave. 6 preset menus cover: beverage, potato, popcorn, pizza, frozen vegetable, and single dinner plate.

5) Fit and Finish

This Toshiba microwave will blend into any kitchen style. It comes with a sturdy hinge and a door lock. Its buttons are easy to read, clear, and responsive to the touch.

Final Verdict

All in all, we recommend this Toshiba microwave. You can’t go wrong considering the price, performance, and reliability.

Who makes Toshiba microwaves?
Toshiba sold its home appliances and lifestyle business to China’s Midea Group in 2016. Although this division was a loss leader for Toshiba, Midea, with its enormous production and marketing reach, saw this as a huge opportunity. Midea makes a majority of appliances in the world. Many brands from GE to Frigidaire outsource some part of their production to this company.

The benefits for the merger was very clear for customers. As an example Toshiba, a highly recognized brand name in the US, never had the ability to sell a $80 microwave such as the EM925A5A in this market without Midea’s help.

How can I turn off the sound on Toshiba microwave?
It seems like microwave ovens have their own language. They beep constantly when they stop operation, when you touch the control panel, to alert you to turn over your food and the list goes on. It is easy to turn off the sound on a Toshiba microwave – there is a button for it. Number 8 on the touchpad doubles as a sound or/off button.

Does Toshiba make over the range microwaves?
No. At this time Toshiba does not make an over the range microwave.
