LG WashTower: Is LG Wash Tower the Right Choice For You?

LG WashTower: Is LG Wash Tower the Right Choice For You?

If you like a full sized stacked washer and dryer without needing a step stool to reach, the LG WashTower is a great choice. This LG incorporates an innovative design that gives you the sleek look of a stackable washer and dryer without the struggle of hard-to-reach top controls (or the inconvenience of having to stack your washer/dryer!).

1970s-style laundry centers are an all-in-one solution to bulky washer dryer sets but feature-poor wash quality. And not to mention, they’re an eyesore that will have you closing the door to the laundry room before guests come over. Luckily, LG has taken the laundry center into the 21st century with the new, single piece LG Wash Tower. You no longer need to purchase 2 machines; a washer and a dryer; connect them with an awkward stacking kit, and pay an installer additional fees for a complicated assembly.

This LG washer not only cleans well and incorporates a modern steam dryer, but its exclusive center panel puts the controls in the middle of the setup, allowing for quick and easy access. In this article, we’ll give you a rundown of all the best features of LG WashTower to help you decide whether or not it would be a good addition to your home.

Is the LG WashTower Right for You?

LG WashTower Laundry Room Idea
You can create a functional laundry room with LG WashTower

Before we dive into talking about different features, it’s important to consider whether or not it would be the right product for you. It is a great option for you if:

  • You want to save floor space: Because the LG WashTower is one unit with both a washer and dryer, you get the perks of both machines in half the footprint.
  • You want a beautiful, streamlined look: You can even build the LG Wash Tower into cabinetry.
  • You’re looking for a modern alternative to small, outdated laundry centers
  • You’re not a basketball player and don’t want to pull out a step stool every time you need to reach the dryer controls in a stacked unit

Up until today, if you wanted an all-in-one laundry experience, you were limited to three choices: a stacked washer/dryer, laundry center, or an all-in-one washer dryer combo. However, these choices all came with setbacks:

  • A stacked washer/dryer unit is tall, making the top controls hard to reach
  • Laundry centers are outdated and have a small capacity
  • All-in-one washer dryer combo machines can take over three hours per wash and dry

When creating this product, LG kept washer dryer combo setbacks in mind to come up with an entirely new type of laundry experience.

Why Might the LG WashTower be the Wrong Fit?

Your room does not have a dryer vent

In some buildings, venting outside may not be an option. The LG WashTower has a vented dryer. Therefore, before making a purchase, you’ll want to check whether or not a vented dryer is possible.

There are two types of dryers on the market: vented and ventless. Vented dryers connect via an accordion-like kit to the vent duct of your home. They discharge the hot, moist air from the dryer outdoors. Ventless dryers, on the other hand, use a condenser to get rid of excess moisture to the drain.

Vented dryers tend to do a better job of quickly and effectively drying your clothes.

Your laundry closet has limitations

The LG Wash Tower is (W x H x D) 27-in x 74 3/8-in x 30 3/80-in. You should also factor in leaving a few inches of room in the back for hoses and vent connection. This might not be adequate space for you to replace your old Bosch washer dryer. If you have an apartment-sized closet, you may want to consider getting a compact washer and dryer.

LG WashTower vs Your Other Alternatives

It’s important to understand how the LG WashTower stands out from other laundry configurations. Let’s talk about some of the downsides to other types of washer/dryers.

LG WashTower vs Traditional Front Load Washer Dryers

There are many reasons you may choose a stackable washer and dryer. First off, it might be your only option if you have a small laundry room. A stacked product takes up half the floor space of a traditional washer and dryer, making it perfect for a laundry closet or otherwise tiny laundry room.

Below, we depicted the dimensions of LG WashTower vs the traditional fron load models. You will notice the “savings” in height. Also, the controls are visible and conveniently located in the middle with the Wash Tower.

Even if you have a large laundry room, stacking your washer and dryer helps to free up floor space that you can use for other amenities like a sink, additional counter space, or even storage. It also gives your room a clutter-free appeal, as the stacked look is both sleek and functional.

However, stacked washer-dryers can be hard to manage, especially for shorter individuals. This is because when stacked, it can be difficult to see or reach the top dryer controls. Many manufacturers even angle the display for a more aesthetically pleasing look. But let’s be real – what good is aesthetic design if you can’t see the screen in the first place?

LG WashTower vs Laundry Centers

Laundry centers have been serving our homes since the 1970s. Not much has changed since then when it comes to the size and wash quality of these products. Modern front load washer dryers, including the LG WashTower, are gentle on clothes and provide an outstanding clean.

LG WashTower vs All-in-One Washer Dryer Combos

A washer dryer combo is a versatile all-in-one machine that both cleans and dries your clothes. This means you don’t have to worry about moving your clothes from a washing machine to a dryer. Although this sounds like a dream come true, washer dryer combos are best for individuals or couples who live alone.

This is because depending on the type of fabric you’re washing, you can expect a 2.5 to 3.5-hour wash and dry cycle. Therefore, a washer dryer combo is just not practical for families who do a lot of laundry. For this reason, we recommend a washer and dryer combo only if you have no other alternative which makes the LG Wash Tower a desirable choice.

Pros and Cons of LG WashTower

Pros of LG WashTower

Easy Installation
The LG WashTower takes many of the classic laundry units’ issues and remedies them with innovative technology and sleek design. To start, because this is a single unit, it’s much easier to install than a stacked unit. You also don’t need to worry about purchasing a stacking kit or other accessories in order to make it functional. Even the smallest install mistake on a stacked unit can lead to a toppled dryer, which is a major safety hazard.

Easy-to-reach Center Controls
One of the worst parts about a stacked washer/dryer unit is trying to reach the top dryer controls. Unless you’re tall, you probably have to reach for the step stool every time you want to turn on the dryer, which is a major inconvenience. Recognizing this problem, LG Wash Tower introduced the innovative Center Control panel, which makes both the washer and dryer controls easily accessible at the perfect height.

Built-In Intelligence
Have you ever struggled with figuring out which settings to use on your clothes? The LG WashTower takes out the guesswork with built-in sensors that automatically detect fabric texture and load size. Its Smart Pairing technology even allows the washer and dryer to communicate to select the compatible drying cycle for your clothes.

Excellent Allergen Management
The LG WashTower is certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The Allergiene cycle uses steam to remove pet dander and other allergens from your clothes. This is a huge bonus for asthma and allergy sufferers.

Prevent Your Duct from Clogging
The WashTower comes with a “FlowSense” system to detect if your duct is clogging or if your lint filter needs a clean.

Tub Cleaning
Just add liquid bleach to the dispenser and press the TubClean cycle. The Wash Tower will clean not only the tub, but also the door and the gaskets. Regular tub cleaning will help prevent unwanted smells, mold, and mildew.

ThinQ App Compatibility
The LG WashTower is also compatible with the manufacturer’s ThinQ app, which allows you to start a new wash cycle while running errands or check how much time is left on each cycle from the comfort of your couch. Some features on this washer are even compatible with the Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Cons of LG WashTower

  • The LG WashTower is only available as a vented dryer, making it less than ideal for apartment living
  • It’s only available in 27-inch width and does not have a 24-inch option.
  • Some argue that if something goes wrong with one unit (either the washer or dryer), you need to replace both. However, the same is true with regular stacked units. Because manufacturers are constantly changing dimensions and models, these changes are typically not compatible with older units. Therefore, you’ll end up having to change both units regardless.

Factors to Consider When Buying a Washer and Dryer

Aside from the configuration, there are many factors to consider when shopping for a new washing machine.

Cleaning ability
Of course, the first thing you’ll want to make a note of when looking at a washer is its cleaning ability. After all, the whole point of having a washing machine is to make sure your clothes come out fresh and clean. This includes specialized cycles for stain removal and delicate fabrics.

However, the cleaning doesn’t have to stop when your clothes come out of the washer. In fact, many dryers include cycles that sanitize and steam your clothes.

Cycle Speed
There’s nothing worse than having your day put on hold for long wash cycles.LG understands this, which is why the company armed the LG WashTower with TurboWash 360. This impressive wash cycle is armed with five jets, which clean large loads in less than 30 minutes.

Energy and Water Use
Energy and water conservation are good for both the environment and your utility bills. When shopping for a new washer, it’s good to look for an Energy Star certification, which the LG WashTower has received. This LG also uses load-sensing technology, which prevents you from using too much water for each load. During the drying cycle, sensor drying kicks in to lower the heat to conserve energy.

Specialty Cycles and Programs
Specialty cycles and programs help you to customize your washing and drying experience based on your individual needs. In addition to the Allergiene and TurboWash 360 cycles that we’ve already mentioned, the LG Wash Tower offers a TurboSteam feature, which helps to keep your bedding fresh between washes.

What installation parts do I need?

  • Hot and cold water intake hoses, including a connecting supply hose.
  • Gas models come with two 110 Volt power cords.
  • Electric models come with one 110 Volt power cord for the washer. You will need a 3 or 4 prong 240 Volt cord for the dryer.
  • Gas models require a flex hose.
  • Semi-rigid vent kit for both gas and electric dryer models.

Are the washer/dryer doors reversible in the LG WashTower? The washer door is not reversible. The dryer door is reversible.

Is side venting possible? Electric dryers have 3-way venting possibilities using optional vent kits sold by LG. Gas dryers have 2-way venting options.

Overall, if you’re looking for a space-saving laundry solution that doesn’t compromise on quality, the LG WashTower is a great investment. The easy-to-reach controls and quick yet effective wash cycles are just some of the many highlights of this unit.
