Bosch Washer Dryer: 300 vs 500 vs 800 Bosch Washing Machines Reviewed

Wondering if Bosch washer and dryer models are worth the price tag? Or maybe you’re looking to learn more about what distinguishes one Bosch washing machine from the other? Either way, we’ve got you covered!

Bosch offers some of the most popular compact laundry solutions on the market. The problem? When you’re shopping for a new washer or dryer, the jargon and terminology featured in the product descriptions can get confusing. That’s why we’ve created a simple, straightforward guide to selecting the best Bosch washer and dryer models for your home.

In this article, we’ll take a look at the most important factors to consider when choosing a new washing machine, and lay out our picks for the best Bosch washer dryer models on the market.

Best Stackable Bosch Washer and Dryer Sets

Bosch Is Right For You If:

  • You’re in the market for a reliable washer and dryer
  • You need a compact laundry solution to fit in a closet, under counter, or on the second floor
  • You’re looking for a budget-friendly alternative to Miele washer and dryer
  • You do not have a vent for your laundry room
  • You need to stack the dryer on top of the washer (you can always use Bosch laundry side by side or on pedestals)

Bosch Is Not For You If:

  • You don’t have a 220 volt connection for the dryer (Bosch dryers only work with 220 volt connections)
  • You’re replacing an older, 27 inch full size model and want something identical. (All Bosch washers and dryers are compact, which means they’re 24 inches wide, 25 inches deep)
  • Some apartments or dorm rooms do not have adequate space or plumbing hook ups to accommodate a compact Bosch washer. You may even need a washing machine in your RV or campground. In those cases consider getting a portable washing machine. Just connect them to a regular faucet and drain in a nearby sink.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Bosch dryers utilize a condensation drying method. Although this method is great for drying clothes, one downside of this technology is that it emits heat and moisture to your living area. If the air in your living space is too humid, or if you close the doors of your laundry closet, your clothes may take longer to dry. However, Bosch remedied this issue with the introduction of the heat pump dryer in the 500 series.

My co-founder John Carey took the opportunity to compare different Bosch washer dryer series. He made sure to include tips and great visuals in his work.

Bosch Terminology Explained

Because Bosch tends to use special terms to describe the features and cycles of their washers, let’s take a look at some of these terms, so you know exactly what they mean.

  • ActiveWater® Technology The automatic load adjustment recognizes the load condition in three steps and ensures that only the amount of electricity and water required for that load is used. The continuous automatic load adjustment in compact washers and dryers with ActiveWater Management achieve even more accurate results.

  • AquaShield® Provides Protection Against Water Damage. It uses a special double-walled feed hose and safety valve to provide protection against water damage.

  • SpeedPerfect™ Provides Up to 40% Faster Washing Time as compared to regular Perm Press Heavy Soil cycle without SpeedPerfect. WTG86402UC model even has super speed function for under 15 min wash.

  • EcoSilence™ More energy-efficient, stronger, quieter, and long-lasting – that is the new EcoSilence Drive™. Instead of carbon brushes, it is driven by powerful, permanent magnets. This means that there is no more friction – and, in turn, no more wear and tear or energy loss.

  • AquaStop® AquaStop Leak Protection System. In the event of a leak in the machine or the hoses, AquaStop kicks in to stop the water. It automatically shuts off the unit and pumps out all the water in the machine if the overflow switch detects water in the base.

  • Home Connect Features an Easy Start Option for your Wash Cycle

What Makes Bosch Washer Dryer Great?

Bosch earned a prominent rank in our coveted best washer and dryer listing this year. Here are some of the great traits of Bosch laundry:

Cleaning and Drying Performance

A washer or dryer can have all the fancy technology upgrades in the world, but if it doesn’t wash or dry clothes effectively, then it doesn’t amount to much. Fortunately, Bosch models bring both. They’ve earned a reputation as a trustworthy brand in the U.S., one of the most dependable and sought-after manufacturers in the country.

Cleaning Performance

First and foremost, let’s talk about cleaning power. Bosch’s wave-shaped drums protect clothes with powerful yet gentle cleaning. With 15 cycles and 9 options, each of your cleaning needs is covered. The 15 cycles include Permanent Press, Permanent Press Heavy Soil, Permanent Press Light Soil, Delicates, Quick 30 min, Rinse/Spin, Hand Wash/Wool, Drain, Cotton Normal, Cotton Light Soil, Towels, Allergens, Jeans, Heavy Duty, and Drum Clean. Options include SpeedPerfect™, Temperature, Finish In, Extra Rinse, Prewash, Spin Speed, Start/Pause, Child Lock, and Signal.

Drying Performance

When it comes to drying power, Bosch is no slouch either. Bosch provides a minimum of 1400 RPM for their washers, a higher RPM than many other brands. This brings faster drying power alongside a stainless steel drum with interior LED light, augmented by the option for condensation drying with an external duct.

Condensation is the newest innovation in drying technology. The Bosch Condensation Dryer uses an eco-friendly solution to gently dry clothes at an optimal temperature without the need for external ducting.

So how does it work? Let’s take a look.

  1. Cool ambient air enters the dryer from the living area.
  2. Cool ambient air is heated by the heating element at the back of the dryer.
  3. Hot air circulates in the drum, evaporating moisture from the load.
  4. The combination of hot air and moisture causes air to circulate through the condenser unit.
  5. The hot air and moisture condense into the water as it passed through the cool condenser unit.
  6. The water is collected under the condenser unit and pumped out by the drain pump.
  7. Warm, dry air is reheated and circulated back into the dryer drum.

The benefits of this drying method include the fact that there is no ventilation setup required, plus lower energy costs than vented models and easier installation, too.

Energy Efficiency

EnergyWhen it comes to energy efficiency, all Bosch washer models are Energy Star Qualified and exceed all government standards for energy-saving design.
They feature an Internal Water Heater that heats water more quickly and efficiently, plus ActiveWater technology that ensures efficient water use. There’s also a Load Adjustment Function that automatically adjusts water usage based on the load size to reduce energy and water consumption.

Noise & Vibration

Bosch’s most recent machines improve on every aspect of their predecessors, including noise and vibration. The new models’ Anti-Vibration Circulator Walls reduce vibration for increased quietness and safety, while the EcoSilence Motor delivers quiet, efficient, and long-lasting performance.

Quiet operation in the laundry room means a less disruptive laundry experience. Bosch’s patented AntiVibration system utilizes sensors that monitor the load weight and movement of the drum in order to eliminate imbalance.

The circular profile reinforces the side wall and increases the washer’s stability. It reduces vibration by up to 30%, so your laundry day is quieter and more peaceful.

This structure, combined with enhanced insulation, regulates noise levels between 54 dB during the wash and 73 dB during spin on 300 Series. 500 Series washers are quieter at 52/72 dB. Finally, the Bosch 800 Series takes quietness to a whole new level at 50/71 dB.

Size, Configuration & Ergonomics

When it comes to ergonomic design, Bosch simply can’t be beaten. Each model comes in 24-inch width design, with a minimum stacked height of 67 and 3/4 inches with a matching dryer pair. The Bosch 24-inch laundry pair can be installed stacked, side-by-side, on pedestals, in a closet or under the counter for maximum flexibility. Bosch washers also feature a sleek design that offers best in class installation. That means you can stack them in a closet with no problems at all. It’s also important to remember that you can plug the washer directly into your dryer to simplify installation.

Finally, 24-inch Bosch washing machines are compliant with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). That means they meet ADA height and access requirements and operable parts requirements for ease of use.

How to avoid common mistakes when purchasing a compact washer and dryer

  • Measure your laundry area (example when the closet door is closed what is the width, depth and height of the area – does this allow for the new washer and dryer to fit?)
  • Do you have a 220V electric outlet?
  • Did you purchase a stacking kit if you intend to stack the Bosch washer and dryer? Dryer needs to be secured on top of the washer.
  • Our washer dryer installation checklist provides you with tip to avoid common mistakes.

I heard German manufacturers are the best when it comes to compact washer and dryer sets is that true?

Yes. German manufacturers such as Bosch and Miele make the best apartment size washer and dryers. Find out more about Bosch vs Miele washers on our recent review.

Can you run the washer and dryer at the same time?

We get this question a lot, especially from people who are interested in stacking the washer and dryer. Also, since the Bosch washer electric cord connects to the Bosch dryer, the question comes to mind if you could operate both products at the same time.

The answer is yes. The washer dryer set is designed to operate independently.

Does Bosch make full size washers? (i.e., 27-inch wide)

Bosch used to make 27-inch wide units until the early 2000s for the USA market. However, changes in the UL regulations (Underwriters Laboratories for Safety Certifications) pushed Bosch and some other manufacturers to concentrate their R&D and manufacturing efforts on the compact laundry to maintain a lower cost structure. Therefore, at this time, Bosch does not make full-size washers.

Does Bosch make heat-pump dryers?

At this time Bosch heat-pump dryers are not available in the US. Bosch targets mid 2020 for the release of these products.
